Founder and Executive Director
Amanda is the founder of Project Playdate and its umbrella nonprofit, Powerhouse NYC. Amanda received her undergraduate degree in Social Work and Social Entrepreneurship from New York University. She is currently an MBA Candidate at Columbia University. Amanda has previous experience as a summer school teacher, high school mentor, babysitter, tutor, and camp counselor; and has as been a childcare provider for over 13 years. She is very passionate about creating safe, fun and enriching experiences for children. Amanda specializes in using the power of playtime to foster children's social, creative, motor and leadership skills.
Director of Private Events
As a resident of New York City for 10 years and counting, Sharon feels there is no better city in the world for children to live and grow! With 15 years experience as a nanny, Sharon is well-accustomed to the need for parents to have a night off! As a Director of Private Events for Project Playdate, Sharon loves to use creative play to really bring out the best in a child. Currently working towards her B.S. in Recreation Therapy at Lehman College, Sharon relishes the chance to implement fun new games and activities into a Playdate! As a private caregiver, she specializes in working with children with Special Needs.
After School Director and Events Manager
Zoë Lathan is a musical theater artist/choreographer and children's theater teacher newly graduated from The Broadway Dance Center. Being a transplant from Columbus, Ohio, she's performed and choreographed for various professional/regional theaters and was a children's theater teaching artist (dance specialist) with Columbus Children's Theatre. With 5+ years experience, Zoë enjoys integrating her performing arts experience/teaching into her part-time caregiving! With a passion for creation and collaboration in children of all ages, she strives to create a safe and open environment where children can develop their own ideas in positive and productive ways. She is currently working on producing personal artistic projects with her team and offers part-time care.
Symone is a New York native who recently made her way back to the city after living abroad in the Dominican Republic for 10 years. There she received her BA in clinical psychology and gained experience working with children through organizations similar to Habitat for Humanity. She worked for over 2 years with children on the Autism spectrum after completing a specialized two-week intensive workshop on Applied Behavior Analysis at one of the Florida Autism Treatment Centers and bringing her knowledge back to the Dominican Republic, teaching nonverbal children alternative methods of communication. She is a movement enthusiast and believes in the power of learning all the wonderful and beautiful things you can do with your body! She teaches partner acrobatics (acro yoga), juggling, hula hooping, and other flow arts to children and has seen great success in her students as they have increased their capacity to understand and follow directions, communicate, trust, and be respectful towards others.
Alexandra has experience with children as young as two weeks and as old as fifteen as well as children with special needs such as autism and cerebral palsy. She has hundreds of hours of early childhood classes and I have trained other adults on courses as well. She has been an after school caregiver and help with homework and drive kids to dance and karate lessons. There aren't many things that she enjoys more than watching a child's face light up when they've learned or mastered a new skill and I love being a part of the process to get there. She loves children to be cultured and loves watching kids grow to be more and more self-sufficient every day.
Sean is a local actor and singer living in Brooklyn who grew up in a big family with multiple dogs so he is very experienced with kids of all ages and pets! He graduated from the University of the Arts with a BFA in Musical Theatre. He had experience working as a teacher in an Autism Drama Program where he led theater games and other activities to help cultivate social skills. He has also worked as a music teacher in summer camp, where he led classes in learning simple music and choreography.
After School Leader
Thomas is originally from Arlington, TX and made his way to New York after gaining his MFA in Acting from the University of Connecticut. He is currently working in various theater arts education programs working with students of all ages on improv, puppetry, writing and acting. He enjoys participating in city league sports, martial arts, and photography/web design.
Meaghan has 8 years of experience as a nanny/babysitter. She is also a theater camp counselor and choreographer. She teaches dance to kids ages 3-18; everything from ballet to ballroom. She believes that children learn by doing. She loves promoting learning through physical activities from dance to tag. She believes the arts are a powerful tool to build healthy relationships with friends, the community, and the world.
Sarah moved to NYC from Pennsylvania in 2013 and has been babysitting for over 5 years. She is pursuing a BFA in Acting for Film, TV, Voiceovers, & Commercials at PACE University and is expected to graduate in 2017. She is a former intern and mentor at multiple Children’s Theatre Companies/camps and loves to engage in imaginative play as much as possible with all ages. Sarah’s care is enhanced by her favorite activities which include all aspects of the performing arts. She believes that clear communication, patience, and a positive attitude are all key components to ensuring a great time! Sarah has an abundance of infant experience, is infant/child CPR Certified, and offers both private and group care.
